ചെറുതന പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ 1, 12 വാർഡുകളിൽ നിന്നായി 14 വീടുകളാണ് ഇന്ന് സന്ദർശിച്ചത്. എല്ലായിടത്തെയും പൊതുവായ പ്രശ്‌നം വീടിന്റെ damage തന്നെയാണ്. അറ്റകുറ്റപ്പണികൾ ആവശ്യമുള്ളവയും, maintenance ചെയ്തിട്ട് കാര്യമില്ലാത്തവയും ഉണ്ട്. തീർത്തും അപകടകരമായ സാഹചര്യത്തിലുള്ള വീടുകളിൽ പേടിച്ചാണ് വീട്ടുകാർ താമസിക്കുന്നത്. ഏതു സമയത്തും ഇടിഞ്ഞു വീഴാവുന്ന സാഹചര്യമാണ്. മണ്ണിലേക്ക് ഇടിഞ്ഞും, ചുവരുകൾ പൊളിഞ്ഞും, തറയും മേൽക്കൂരയും ഇളകിയും, വിള്ളലുകളും പൊട്ടുപാടുകളും വന്നും തീർത്തും പരിതാപകരമായ അവസ്ഥയിലാണ് പല വീടുകളും. ഓലമേഞ്ഞ വീടുകളുമുണ്ട് കൂട്ടത്തിൽ. അത്തരം വീടുകളും അതിനകത്തുണ്ടായിരുന്ന സാധനങ്ങളും പൂർണ്ണമായും ഉപയോഗശൂന്യമാണ്.

12-ാം വാർഡിലെ വീടുകളിൽ പഞ്ചായത്ത് പൈപ്പുണ്ട്. കിണർ വെള്ളം പൂർണ്ണമായും മലിനമായതുകൊണ്ട് എല്ലാ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കും പൈപ്പ് വെള്ളത്തെയാണ് ആശ്രയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. പഞ്ചായത്ത് പൈപ്പുണ്ടെങ്കിലും വെള്ളം പിടിച്ചു വെക്കാൻ ടാങ്ക് സൗകര്യമൊന്നുമില്ല. വെള്ളം വരുമ്പോൾ എടുക്കാം, അത്രതന്നെ. കിണറില്ലാത്ത വീട്ടുകാർ മുന്നേ മുതലേ പുഴ വെള്ളത്തിലാണ് വസ്ത്രം നനയ്ക്കുന്നതും കുളിക്കുന്നതുമെല്ലാം. പുഴയാകെ മലിനമായ ഈ അവസ്ഥയിലും അതുതന്നെ തുടരുന്നു. വൻതോതിൽ മാലിന്യം വന്നടിഞ്ഞുകൂടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അതിന്റെ ദുർഗന്ധം വേറെയും.

ഒന്നാം വാർഡിൽ പൊതു ടാപ്പിൽ നിന്നാണ് കുടിവെള്ളം കിട്ടുന്നത്. ഇരുപതോളം വീടുകൾക്ക് ഒരു ടാപ്പാണ് ഉള്ളത്. കുളിയും നനയുമൊക്കെ പുഴ വെള്ളത്തിൽ തന്നെ. കുട്ടനാട്ടിലെ പലയിടങ്ങളിലെയും പോലെ ഇവിടെ ക്യാൻസർ രോഗികളുടെ എണ്ണംം താരതമ്യേന കൂടുതലാണ്. പുഴ വെള്ളത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അവർക്ക് ആശങ്കയുണ്ട്. രാസവളങ്ങളും കീടനാശിനികളും കലർന്ന കുട്ടനാടിന്റെ വെള്ളത്തിലേക്ക് ഒഴുകിവന്ന പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് മാലിന്യങ്ങളാണ് പുതിയ വില്ലൻ. പക്ഷേ ഭൂരിഭാഗം പേരും കർഷകത്തൊഴിലാളികളായ ഒരു നാട്ടിൽ വെള്ളവും ചേറുമില്ലാതെ അവരെങ്ങനെ ജീവിക്കാനാണ് ? അവരോട് അതിജീവനത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് എന്ത് പറയാനാണ്.

കോഴികൾ, ആടുകൾ, പശു…. സ്ത്രീകളുടെ വരുമാന മാർഗങ്ങളായിരുന്നു. ഒക്കെയും ഒഴുകിപ്പോകുകയോ മരിച്ചു പോകുകയോ ചെയ്തു. ഇവയെന്തെങ്കിലും സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു നൽകാനായാൽ അവരുടെ ജീവിതങ്ങൾക്ക് മുന്നോട്ടു പോകാനുള്ള പച്ചക്കൊടിയാവും എന്നതിൽ സംശയമില്ല. ചില വീടുകളിലെ തയ്യൽ മെഷീനുകളും നാശമായി പോയിട്ടുണ്ട്. വരുമാന മാർഗമായിരുന്നു അതും.

എല്ലാ വീടുകളിലും ഇലക്ട്രിസിറ്റിയുണ്ട്. വയറിങ് പ്രശ്‌നം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ചില വീടുകളിൽ അവരത് പരിഹരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ടിവി, റെഫ്രിജറേറ്റർ, ഗ്യാസ് സ്റ്റൗ, കട്ടിൽ, അലമാരകൾ, ഫർണീച്ചറുകൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ പലതും ഉപയോഗശൂന്യമായി മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.

സത്വര ഇടപെടൽ ആവശ്യമുള്ളത് ഭക്ഷണ സാധനങ്ങളും വസ്ത്രങ്ങളും എത്തിക്കുന്നതിലാണ്. സാധനങ്ങൾ വരുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും കൃത്യമായി എല്ലാവരിലേക്കും എത്തുന്നില്ല എന്നൊരു പ്രശ്‌നമുണ്ട്.

ഒന്നാം വാർഡ് പാണ്ടി എന്ന ദ്വീപാണ്. അവിടെ കായൽ ഭിത്തി ഇല്ല, പ്രളയത്തിൽ ചില ഭാഗങ്ങൾ ഒലിച്ചു പോയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇനിയൊരു പ്രളയം എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുപോകാതെ കാക്കാൻ അടിയന്തിരമായി അവർക്ക് കായൽഭിത്തി കെട്ടിക്കൊടുക്കേണ്ടതുണ്ട്. ഇത് സർക്കാർ സംവിധാനങ്ങൾക്ക് മാത്രം ചെയ്യാനാവുന്ന കാര്യമാണ്. അധികൃതരുടെ ശ്രദ്ധയിൽപ്പെടുത്തുക എന്നതു മാത്രമേ നമുക്ക് ചെയ്യാനാവൂ.

The condition of the house is extremely poor and it’s almost uninhabitable under normal circumstances. The house is very small as it is. The flood has demolished more than half of this house including the roof. All that’s remaining are 2 small rooms and the kitchen. The kitchen is also on the verge of collapse and the inhabitabts this house (mother and her three children) are living in fear. The mother is a housemaid and her daughter is working in chenganoor. The elder son had completed his ITI earlier but is unable to work due to injuries sustained from a previous accident. The youngest son is doing his ITI as of now . The family survive on the small income brought in by the mother and her daughter. They take drinking water from government pipes and they have an outdoor toilet as well. Their immediate requirement is a safe habitat.

This is a thatched house. The husband is a tiller and the wife works with ‘ ‘ Thozhilurappu ‘ Project. The two children are students . They collect drinking water from the government pipe and use the water from the river for all other purposes. They river water is very polluted as of now and the smell is unbearable but they are forced to use this water. There is a bridge nearby and a large quantity of waste has accumulated nearby the house. They lost their household items as well as their poultry in the flood. As it is a small thatched kutcha house, the living conditions are very poor even though they have cleaned it

This house is located at the end of an island. The flood took the land where the front yard was located . There are multiple cracks in the floors and walls. The water that seeps through the floor is making it difficult for them to sleep on the floor. The house is under threat of structural failure due to the moisture content and the incurred damages. The family has two old people, their son ,his wife and their kid. They lost all of their poultry as well.

This house is structurally compromised. The kitchen is separated from the rest of the house and there are huge sinkholes inside the bedrooms. The floor sinks further if we step on it. One of the children hurt her leg this way . The structure has also leaned to one side.
